Since the Winnipeg River Learning Centre hired the first
coordinator in the fall of 2007, there have been well over three hundred
students who have taken advantage of the course offerings. From Tapping
Maple Trees to the Five Month RRC Electrical program and everything in
between, by working together I believe we have met and exceeded our
initial goals and objectives.
There are many people and organizations to thank for this success.
The RRC – Gimli Campus and particularly Clayton Tompkins for his on
going support and programming. Sunrise School Division who donated the
space we needed to start out on this project and for now passing on
facility ownership to us for $1.00 enabling the renovation project to
proceed.
The Manitoba Model Forest with the assistance of it’s partners and
board and particularly Manitoba Hydro for the annual financial support
for operating this facility as well as programming support and rental
income.
Winnipeg River Community Futures, particularly Mary Greber and
Sharalyn Reitlo and their board, for their support through the
Whiteshell Community Adjustment Fund which enabled us to begin this
journey as well as develop our Electrical Lab. Sharalyn has assisted us
throughout with our governance process and helped us to keep moving
forward to our AGM today.
Black River First Nation who worked with us in the very beginning to
access funds for the feasibility studies and continue to be one of our
most supportive partners.
The RM of Alexander and the Town of Powerview/Pine Falls have played
a very important role as the political power and will that make things
happen as well as contributing funding to the renovation project. I
would like to acknowledge both George Harbottle and Diane Dubé who
served on the executive committee with myself and Charlie Black since we
began and have been my strongest supporters through the ups and downs of
this project.
There are so many people who have been a part of this process, our
staff and teachers, the sponsors to our programs, Sagkeeng Education
Authority, Sagkeeng Employment and Training Services, Manitoba Metis
Federation, JUST Training, MB ED and Training, volunteers on committees,
and many others. We thank you all for your contribution.

I would invite all residents off North East
Manitoba to review the information on this site an take some time to
consider your personal skill development plans or needs, and how we
might help you achieve your goals. Our facility has a state of the art
Carpentry shop, an electrical training lab and fully equipped Nurse
Training lab that we plan to rotate programs through depending on
demand.
We are working hard to establish many
partners in training to provide the widest possible menu of programs to
make it possible for our residents to take skill training in our own
region as opposed to commuting or relocating elsewhere.
We have long term established partnerships
with Red River College (Gimli Campus) as well as the Manitoba Model
forest.
We have recently partnered with the Academy
of Learning (Steinbach) to open a fully equipped , computer based
training facility on campus that can provide a wide range of certified
training programs ,these programs will be offered shortly.
We are looking to partner with Red River
College main campus to deliver a main campus program in Advance Business
Application for Aboriginal students, and will be holding info sessions
shortly to gauge interest.
We have entered into discussions with other
training providers to expand our offerings in the trades And other skill
areas as local demand warrants.
Our facility has over a dozen air
conditioned class rooms suitable for any form of training from a 1 day
meeting to programs lasting several months.
I encourage local organizations and
businesses to contact me to discuss your training and employment needs ,
I am willing to source out any specialized training that may be required
,and assist you in seeking funding as required.
We hope to announce a number of new and
exciting training opportunities in the coming year and I look forward to
meeting you all , down at YOUR Learning Centre.
